The ecotone is not strongly structured by natural disturbances thus, it may be more strongly controlled by and sensitive to climatic change than in areas where disturbance is more prevalent. Variation is primarily related to slope, elevation, aspect, and geology associated with the morphology of the mountains and the disturbances they produce. The Ecotone Hotel is located on the shores of Biwa Lake, the largest lake in Japan.

ECOTONE JOURNAL PATCH
There are six major types of ecotone varying in the amount of natural disturbances, permanent features (e.g., lakes), closed forest, patch forest, and krummholz. Ecotone Journal Aug 2012 - Jun 2015 2 years 11 months. We used GIS and multivariate statistics to (1) analyze landscape structure in transects across the ecotone in Rocky Mountain National Park, (2) identify the major variants of forest-tundra ecotone, and (3) identify the influence of the environment and natural disturbances on variation in the landscape structure of the ecotone. Journal Ecotone is an international peer-review open access journal published by Doctoral Study Program of Environmental Science, Graduate Program, Riau.

However, the alpine forest-tundra ecotone may be insensitive to climatic change if it is a climatic relict or is frequently disturbed. Remote sensing may be well suited to monitoring recent changes across the treeline because it captures integrated changes of all vegetation life forms over large spatial extents. The structure of this mosaic affects species habitat and potential ecotone response to global change. Environmental change and socio-economic pressure are expected to have significant impacts on northern Alborz vegetation, particularly along ecotone such as the treeline. In the desert-oasis ecotone of Northwest China, environmental risks to agriculture, such as water shortage, remain serious and limit the increase of agricultural productivity (Kang et al., 2017 Zhao et al., 2018).The risks of water shortage are increased and water productivity is decreased by excessive cropland water losses, such as high rates of deep drainage. To do so, we analyzed the composition of seedlings emerging from casts after earthworm ingestion and compared it to the plant compositions of emerging seedlings from the soil and of the aboveground. Additional observations in other mangrove-salt marsh transition zones are needed to build this view. Thus, we aimed at better understanding seedearthworm interactions and their impact on plant communities across a grassland-forest ecotone. Landscapes in the ecotone between forest and tundra contain a mosaic of patches of trees, meadows, lakes, disturbed areas, and other features. The ecotone will push these native mangroves from being a source towards a sink of ammonium nitrogen to coastal water by decreasing porewater exchange and modifying the nutrient stoichiometry in this study.
